Highway 71 bridge project completion delayed due to high water

MANKATO, Minn – Work on the new Highway 71 bridge south of Windom has been delayed due to high water in the Des Moines River, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The bridge replacement project began on July 12 and was expected to be complete by October 15.  Officials now expect completion to be closer to mid-November.

Highway 71 traffic continues to be detoured to Cottonwood County Road 17 and Jackson County Road 30. There is a 12-foot width restriction on Highway 71 in both directions from Cottonwood County Road 25 to Highway 60.

The new Highway 71 bridge will feature engineering improvements and improved functionality. Duininck, Inc. is the prime contractor for the $1.5 million project.

Mn/DOT urges motorists to plan ahead, watch for detour signs and be alert for workers in the work zone.
