UPDATE: TRAVEL ADVISORY
Highway 22 south of St. Peter opens to traffic
Other highways in Minnesota River valley remain closed
MANKATO, Minn. – (10:30 a.m.) Highway 169 in St. Peter by Union Street is expected to open by noon today (Friday, Oct. 1), according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol.
The opening of Highway 169 in St. Peter allows traffic to access Highway 22 north of St. Peter. Traffic was previously detoured to city streets.
Motorists are advised that Highway 169 from St. Peter to LeSueur remains closed and will likely be closed for many days as water will need to be pumped back into the river before it can open. Flood waters continue to travel over the roadway at this time.
The following state highways are open
- Highway 169 from Mankato to St. Peter (expect minor lane restrictions)
- Highway 22 south of St. Peter
- Highway 169 in St. Peter by Union Street
The following state highways remain CLOSED:
- Highway 19 from Highway 169 to Henderson
- Highway 66 south of Mankato

- Highway 93 from Highway 169 to LeSueur
- Highway 99 east of St. Peter
- Highway 169 from St. Peter to LeSueur (both north and southbound lanes closed)
Highways and bridges will be closed until the flood waters recede and Mn/DOT crews can make inspections and repairs to ensure the motoring public’s safety.
Motorists should plan accordingly. When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
