Red Jacket Trail Trestle declared unsafe
Trail and Highway 66 at LeSueur River closed

MANKATO, Minn.- Blue Earth County and the Minnesota Department of Transportation are warning the public to stay away from the Red Jacket Trail Trestle and Hwy 66 at the LeSueur River.

The flood waters in the LeSueur River have damaged the base of a river pier of the historic trestle and engineers have examined it and determined that the bridge is at risk of collapse.  The trestle also crosses Hwy 66 causing added concern if the structure fell.

County and state officials will be monitoring the old railroad bridge closely and determining any further action.

The public is reminded that when a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
