River flooding closing more highways in south central Minnesota
MORE OF Highway 169 closed!
MANKATO, Minn.- (2:15 p.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol have closed a number of state highways in the Minnesota River valley. Highway 169 from Mankato to LeSueur is now closed. Traffic is detoured to Sibley County Road 8, Highway 22, Highway 111 and Highway 14.
Both the north and southbound lanes of Highway 169 from St. Peter to LeSueur are closed so that Mn/DOT crews can reinforce the dike built along Highway 169 north of St. Peter. Minnesota River crests are expected to go higher than previously predicted.
The following state highways are CLOSED:
- Highway 19 from Highway 169 to Henderson
- Highway 22 south of St. Peter
- Highway 66 south of Mankato
- Highway 93 from Highway 169 to Henderson
- Highway 93 from Highway 169 to LeSueur
- Highway 99 east of St. Peter
- Highway 169 from Mankato to St. Peter (north and southbound lanes closed)
- Highway 169 from St. Peter to LeSueur (north and southbound lanes closed)
- Highway 169 in St. Peter by Union Street
Highways that remain closed from flash flooding:
- Highway 30 Mapleton to County Road 14
All highways are closed until further notice.
Motorists should plan accordingly. WHEN A ROAD IS CLOSED IT IS ILLEGAL TO TRAVEL IN THAT AREA. MOTORISTS CAN BE FINED UP TO $1,000 AND/OR 90 DAYS IN JAIL. IN ADDITION, IF TRAVELERS NEED TO BE RESCUED FROM A CLOSED ROAD, OTHER EXPENSES AND PENALTIES WILL APPLY.
