Officials to hold ribbon-cutting ceremony for Highway 169 Saint Peter design-build project
MANKATO, Minn. - Highway 169 between Broadway and Jefferson in St. Peter will soon be open to motorists. The design-build project will be completed between Nov. 16 and Nov.25.
Officials will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the project on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. on the closed section of Highway 169 near Park Row in downtown Saint Peter. Speakers will include local, state and federal officials.
The Highway 169 Design-Build Project extends from Highway 22 South to Union Street, a distance of about 1.5 miles. Shafer Contracting Co., Inc. was the contractor for the reconstruction project that included new utilities, raised medians and bump-outs for traffic calming and improved pedestrian safety. A traffic signal has also been added at the south junction with Highway 22.
The city of Saint Peter, in partnership with the Saint Peter Chamber of Commerce and downtown businesses, will be hosting a “Discover Saint Peter Holiday Celebration.” Most stores in downtown Saint Peter will be hosting special activities and offering store specials. From noon to 5 p.m., children will be able to participate in horse and wagon rides, free movies, a scavenger hunt and prizes, photos with Santa, music and other entertainment. Activities also include a storefront/window display contest and a caroling contest. From 6 p.m. to close of business, there will be a variety of entertainment at various bars, restaurants and coffee shops in downtown.
