Highways 169 in Saint Peter to open on Nov. 16
MANKATO, Minn. - Motorists can resume travel on Highway 169/Minnesota Avenue between Jefferson and Broadway/Highway 99 in St. Peter when the road opens after the morning rush hour on Monday, Nov. 16.
The two-block section between Broadway and Chatham may have one lane open in each direction or may be detoured for a few more days. Southbound traffic would be detoured via Chatham, 3rd St and Broadway. Northbound traffic would be detoured via Broadway, Front St and Chatham. The section between Chatham and Union will be open to four lanes of traffic. The existing truck detour will remain in place until Highway 169 is fully open.
Work to be completed in spring 2010 includes sidewalks north of Chatham and south of Walnut, landscaping and miscellaneous work. Work is also continuing on storm sewer outlets along Walnut and Park Row between Highway 169 and the river. This work will require short-term closures of the intersections of these streets at Front St.
The Highway 169 Design-Build Project extends from Highway 22 South to Union Street. Shafer Contracting Co., Inc. was the design-build contractor for the 1.5 mile reconstruction project that included new utilities, raised medians and bump-outs for traffic calming and improved pedestrian safety. A traffic signal has also been added at the south junction with Highway 22.
For questions about the Highway 169 Saint Peter Design-Build project, call the project hotline at 507-995-2810 or go to www.dot.state.mn.us/d7/projects/169stpeter.
