Detour delayed until July 9 on Highway 169 in Saint Peter
MANKATO, Minn. – The planned detour on Highway 169 (Minnesota Avenue) in Saint Peter has been delayed until Thursday, July 9, weather permitting. The highway will be closed for construction between Jefferson Avenue and Broadway Avenue. Previously reported to begin on July 6, the closure was delayed to provide adequate time for the installation of all necessary signs and temporary signals needed for safe operation. Truck traffic will be detoured to Highway 22/County Road 15 and Highway 99. Local traffic will be detoured to Washington Avenue and Front Street via Broadway and Jefferson Avenues. Detour routes are shown on the attached map. (To view the map go to: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/d7/projects/169stpeter/pdfs/detourroutes-revised.pdf) This section of Highway 169 will remain closed until late November. Half of the width of all sidewalks will remain open for access to all businesses during construction.
On-street parking will be available on cross-streets. Deliveries should be made from alleys wherever possible. Initial work will involve scoring sidewalks and fencing the work zone along the sidewalks, followed by the removal of existing pavement. The Highway 169 design-build project extends from Highway 22 South to Union Street, a distance of about 1.5 miles. Construction will be completed by late 2009. Shafer Contracting Co., Inc. was selected as the design-build contractor for the reconstruction project which is funded as part of the federal stimulus package.
