Highway 13 detour begins May 8
Highway 14 construction informational meeting to be held May 12
MANKATO, Minn. -Highway 13 motorists will be rerouted as the second season of construction on the four-lane Highway 14 Waseca bypass resumes.
The work to slightly shift Highway 13 to the east will result in a short detour for Highway 13 traffic to Waseca County Road 4 from May 8 until mid October. Businesses and residents along this section of Highway 13 will be temporarily directed to exit to the north to avoid the construction on the south end. The realignment of Highway 13 is necessary for the construction of an interchange with Highway 14 and Highway 13.
The public is encouraged to attend an informational meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12 at the Waseca County Highway Office on 5th Street. Mn/DOT representatives and the contractor will be on hand to review the schedule for 2009 and address impacts to travelers, residents and business owners.
Other work that will take place this construction season in the Waseca area includes grading and bridge construction. The work on Waseca County Road 5 bridge and roadway, which was closed last summer, is expected to be complete and open to traffic this fall.
The Steele County portion of the project is expected to begin July 6 and includes construction of temporary crossovers on Interstate 35 and Highway 14, as well as grading work off existing highways.
The construction cost of the two projects to complete the expansion of Highway 14 to I-35 at Owatonna is $108 million.
