Public meeting for Highway 60 plans set for Oct. 16
MANKATO, Minn. – A public meeting to present the plans for improving Highway 60 from south of Worthington to St. James has been set for Thursday, Oct. 16, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Windom Community Center.
The meeting will include an open house beginning at 4 p.m. and a brief presentation at 6 p.m. The public is invited to review plans and visit with Mn/DOT staff at their convenience.
The Highway 60 improvements are being implemented in three phases:
- Phase one includes safety enhancements on Highway 60 between Windom and St. James and is in progress today. Enhancements range from improved signing, lighting and striping to informing the drivers of the four to two-lane transition areas to adding a turn lane in a high truck area. This phase will test how well these various safety techniques perform.
- Phase two is the four-lane expansion between Bigelow and Interstate 90 at Worthington. Construction is currently scheduled in years 2010 to 2013. More specific information and mapping for this phase can be found http://www.dot.state.mn.us/d7/projects/hwy60/index.html.
- Phase three will complete the four-lane highway between Windom and St. James. Work on this final phase will begin after the construction of the four lanes south of Worthington (2013).
