Mankato, Minn. - Landowners along State Highway 60 between Bigelow and Interstate 90 at Worthington are being contacted by Mn/DOT officials who are moving forward with designs for the four-lane expansion of Highway 60.
The Highway 60 expansion north of Bigelow was selected as a candidate for bonding in the Pawlenty-Molnau transportation plan. The $56 million project could begin as early as 2011 if the Governor’s proposal is passed by the 2007 Legislature.
Mn/DOT needs to test soils and conduct land surveys to collect data for roads designs to be ready. They plan to begin this month and will work on it over the next year.
“This is information we would need to collect eventually, even if the project remains in the 2015 to 2023 timeframe,” explained Peter Harff, project manager.
The four-lane expansion from Iowa past Bigelow is on track to begin construction this July. Information on both the north and south segments of Highway 60 can be found at http://www.dot.state.mn.us/d7/projects/hwy60/index.html.
