This
time, State Highway 25 northwest of Belle Plaine will close until
late summer 2006 as the Highway 25 Minnesota River bridge replacement
is scheduled to begin the week of October 24, according to Nathan
Gannon, project engineer at the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
When the old bridge is removed, all traffic will be detoured to
State Highways19 and 5 and U.S. Highway 169 for the duration of
the construction.
The
Highway 25 bridge replacement had been on hold until the completion
of the new river crossing at Blakely, which is now nearly complete.
Lunda
Construction of Black River Falls, Wisconsin was awarded the replacement
of the existing steel truss bridge with a three span steel bridge
with a bid of $ 6,877,646.
The
project includes raising the grade seven feet and building a bridge
130 feet longer than the existing bridge. The new bridge will
have two 12-foot travel lanes, 10-foot shoulders and a 10-foot
trail on the east side of the bridge. Entrances to the Minnesota
Valley Trail and boat landing will also be reconstructed.
