Stay back. Stay Alive.
State and Local Agencies exhibit Snowplows Friday

Mankato, Minn. - A snowplow weighs 17 times more than your car. In a collision, it will "win." That is the key message to an exhibit of state, county and city snowplows, law enforcement and emergency vehicles scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 12 in front of the Intergovernmental Center on Hickory Street in Mankato.

Everyone is encouraged to stop by and see up close snowplow trucks used by the City of Mankato, Blue Earth County and the Minnesota Department of Transportation. State Patrol and the Red Cross will also be present to reinforce winter safety on the road. (If inclement weather, the exhibit will be canceled.)

November 8-12 is Winter Hazard Awareness Week in Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has assembled a website with essential safety measures at www.hsem.state.mn.us . Friday (November 12) is focused winter safe driving and motorists are advised to:

  • Yield to snowplows. They drive slower than posted speeds.
  • Give the plow driver room to work safely.
  • Slow down! Never use cruise control on wet or icy roads.
  • Never drive into a snow cloud.
  • Be patient. Follow at a safe distance (8 seconds) behind the plow.

Mn/DOT also encourages travelers to get up-to-date information on state and federal highways by dialing 511 or logging on to www.511mn.org this winter.
