MANKATO, Minn.
— Due to a delay with the asphalt paving contractor, the State
Highway 59 reconstruction project from Worthington to Fulda will
not be complete until late September, according to Ken Janovsky,
project supervisor from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The Highway
59 project began in May was expected to be completed in August.
Mn/DOT will be able to charge liquidated damages per day after
the allowed working days have expired.
Traffic continues
to be detoured to State Highway 62, Cottonwood County Road 19,
Nobles County Road 1 and State Highway 60 until late September.
The public
is still able to access businesses along Highway 59 near Fulda
and Worthington using the closest crossroad.
Extreme caution
should be taken when driving near a work zone.
Improvements
include replacement of deteriorated pavement, new shoulders and
a smoother surface, and turn lanes and wider shoulders in the
Fulda area.
The contractor
was let to James Cape and Sons Company of Racine, Wisconsin for
a bid of $3,144,165.
