Mankato,
Minn. - The Minnesota Department of Transportation reminds
all-terrain vehicle (ATV) operators that it is against the
law to ride ATVs in ditches along public roadways in Minnesota's
agricultural zone between April 1 and August 1.
The
law, which has been in effect since the early 1990s, was
passed to protect wildlife habitat and to prevent erosion.
Mn/DOT
also reminds the public that freeways such as Interstate
90 and the U.S. Highway 14 bypass in Mankato (where there
are no at-grade intersections) are prohibited from use by
all recreational vehicles year-round.
Mn/DOT,
in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources,
will soon be posting signs along the Highway 14 bypass in
Mankato that remind recreational operators that use is prohibited
in that area.
