When lane closers are in place, dynamic warning systems will be in placed on I-35 and Hwy 14 in both directions warning travelers of stopped traffic and encouraging them to use the late zipper merge.
In April 2017 lane closures will be set up on northbound I-35 (between exit 32 and exit 42) to prepare the roadway for all traffic to be shifted to the northbound lanes of I-35. I-35 southbound lane closures will also occur. When northbound I-35 is ready to receive traffic in both directions, traffic will be shifted and will remain in this configuration until November 2017.
In late April 2017 lane closures will be set up on westbound Hwy 14 (between Steele County 45 and I-35) to prepare the roadway for all traffic to be shifted to the westbound lanes of Hwy 14. Eastbound Hwy 14 lane closures will also occur. When westbound Hwy 14 is ready to receive traffic in both directions, traffic will be shifted and will remain in this configuration until November 2017.
When all Hwy 14 traffic is on the westbound lanes, the northbound I-35 ramp to eastbound Hwy 14 will be closed. Traffic will be detoured through the Hwy 14 interchange with I-35.
The southbound Straight River Rest Area will be closed once traffic is switched to the northbound lanes and will remain closed for the duration of 2017 construction.
The northbound Straight River Rest Area is currently closed for building construction and parking lot expansion. It is scheduled for opening in August of 2017.
