Demolition of the existing 11th Drive NE bridge over Interstate 90 at exit 179 in Austin will begin Friday evening, June 9 and traffic will be routed up and down the off- and on-ramps of I-90. The work is expected to be done by 5 a.m., June 12. If work is completed sooner, traffic will be reopened earlier.

Vehicles that normally access I-90 from this interchange will need to follow detour signs to access the highway at other interchanges.

Currently motorists are restricted to single-lane traffic in each direction on I-90 at Austin near exit 179.

Traffic

  • Single Lane traffic on I-90
  • Long term 11th Drive detour and ramp detours.

About this project

Summary of work

  • Replacement of the bridge on 11th Drive over I-90 in Austin.  Work includes grading, paving, bridge replacement, shared use trail and drainage improvements.  The new bridge will be widened to accommodate two 12-foot lanes, two 8-foot shoulders and 10-foot sidewalk.  The existing roadway alignment will remain the same. I-90 will remain open except when existing bridge is demolished and bridge beams are set. During those closures, traffic will be routed up and down the ramps on I-90. The bridge crossing will be closed and detoured for the duration of the project.

Cost

  • $2.97 million
