New detour starts the week of August 17, detour route has changed
The Stage 3 detour will start once construction has finished on the south end of the project, however it will be slightly different than originally planned. Instead of using 7th St, travelers will use 10th St. This was decided to make it easier for the turning of large trucks.
The new 3 detour is estimated to start around Aug. 18. Through traffic will follow West Lyon Ave, turn north on 10th St through town, then follow Goodhue CR 5 to return to Hwy 61 in northwest Lake City. People will continue to have access to businesses and homes in the construction zone.
Information to join the meeting virtually can be found on the Meetings page. During Governor Walz’s Stay at Home order, weekly public meetings will not be held in person to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19.
About this project
Summary of work
Replacing deteriorated pavement and provide a longer-term fix. Some portions of the roadway are 95-years old
Reducing the four-lane highway to three lanes will result in more uniform, consistent traffic speeds which can reduce crashes
Developing continuous sidewalks. Currently 3,300 feet of roadway in the city are without sidewalks
Constructing an off-street trail for bicyclists and green space
Stage 2 detours travelers from the south side of Lake City, to Wabasha County Road 9 and then to 10th St. Motorists will use Goodhue County Road 5 to rejoin Hwy 61 in the north side of Lake City. During this time, sections 2 and 3 are under construction.
Upcoming traffic impacts
Stages will change as the project advances and sections of the roadway completed.
When construction in Section 2 is complete, detour progresses to Stage 3.
The Stage 3 detour will stay within Lake City. Section 3 will be under construction.
