Traffic will be controlled throughout the project by multiple lane shifts and ramp closures. Keep up to date with current traffic impacts by checking the project website.
Access to the Traveler Information Center, DNR Boat Launch, Fish and Wildlife Service Boat Launch and Lock and Dam will be affected during different stages of the project. Information on access restrictions will be posted here.
Interstate 90 (I90) will be kept open to traffic at all times during the project but there will be over-dimensional permit restrictions implemented.
Trunk Highway 61 will be kept open to traffic at all times during the project but there will be over-dimensional permit restrictions implemented
The existing Dresbach travel information center will be closed to trucks for the duration of the project starting in the spring of 2013 and ending in the fall of 2016
The new crossing will consist of two separate bridges parallel and upstream from the existing bridge. They will be concrete box girder structures over the main river channel and precast concrete girders over the back channel.
Details of the new river bridges:
100 year design life
Length: 2593-feet
Width: approximately 45 - 66-feet
Two – 12-foot lanes each direction
Eastbound acceleration lane
12-foot outside shoulders
Six-foot inside shoulders
The interchange
The final interchange configuration will provide full movement with no signals between I-90 and Highway 61 as well as access to the Traveler Information Center and boat launches from all directions. The heavily used westbound I-90 to southbound Highway 61 will feature a fly-under ramp allowing continuous movement with no competing traffic.
Pedestrians and Bicyclists
The final configuration will provide safe access for users on a 10-foot trail through the interchange without a single crossing with highway traffic. A modified trail system and pedestrian bridge connects riders using the Highway 61 shoulders south of the project to the dedicated bicycle and pedestrian path on the north end of the project. In addition, access is improved to the Rest Area/Traveler Information Center for users of the trail.
