I-35 concrete overlay paving project near Faribault begins July 9

FARIBAULT, Minn. — Motorists on Interstate 35 near Faribault will encounter single lane, head-to-head traffic, ramp detours and traffic delays beginning Monday, July 9 as crews start a concrete overlay project, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Crews will pave approximately 4 miles of southbound I-35 from Rice County Road 9 to Hwy 21 with an unbonded concrete overlay. Additionally, crews will repave the Hwy 21 exit ramp, extend the deceleration lane off southbound I-35 to Hwy 21 and repair culverts along I-35.

Shafer Contracting Co., Inc. of Shafer, Minn. is the prime contractor on this $8 million project. Construction is expected to be completed in fall of 2018.

Motorists can expect single lane, head-to-head traffic and detours during construction. Traffic delays are expected, especially during peak traffic hours.
