Traffic delays possible on Hwy 52 near Zumbrota/Pine Island starting May 14
ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists on Hwy 52 should expect single lane traffic and possible delays near Zumbrota and Pine Island beginning Monday, May 14 for two pavement projects, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Hwy 52 will remain open during the duration of both projects, but lane closures and short-term ramp closures will occur as the construction work progresses. Traffic delays are possible during commuting times and peak weekend travel times.
Beginning Monday, May 14 one crew will begin pavement preservation work by sealing cracks on seven miles of southbound Hwy 52 near Zumbrota. The crew will also work on two miles of southbound Hwy 52 near Pine Island. Motorists should expect single lane traffic and some delays through the work zone.
This work is expected to be completed in one week, weather permitting. Fahrner Asphalt Sealers, Inc., of Plover Wis., is the prime contractor.
On Wednesday, May 16 another crew will finish paving northbound Hwy 52 under the new Hwy 58 bridge at Zumbrota. Motorists should expect lane closures as the work progresses and short-term ramp closures as the paving crew moves past the northbound on-ramp and off-ramps at Hwy 58 in Zumbrota.
This work should be completed in one week and is part of the $5.6 million project that replaced the Hwy 58 bridge at Zumbrota in 2017. The short length of paving was not completed last year before winter. Rochester Sand and Gravel is the paving subcontractor
Motorists should always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. For real-time traffic information in Minnesota, call 511, visit www.511mn.org.
