Winona Bridge span removal Dec. 18-19 to restrict Latsch Island road traffic
WINONA, Minn. – Motorists using Latsch Island Road Dec. 18-19 will not be able to travel under the bridge during construction work to remove a span over the road, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Traffic across the new bridge to and from Winona will remain open during the work.
Pedestrian access will remain open during the work, too. Crews will be removing the span of Bridge 5900, which is over the island road on the north side of the river from Winona. Motorists will also encounter work crews toward the end of next week doing setup work and may be directed by flaggers on the road.
If work is completed earlier, the road will open up earlier.
The work is part of the Winona Bridge project. The new Highway 43 bridge was opened to traffic in 2016. Construction on the historic bridge is expected to continue through 2019.
MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
