Steele County Road 18 bridge traffic restrictions remain over I-35
OWATONNA, Minn. – Traffic barrels remain on the Steele County Road 18 south of Owatonna to direct traffic away from a beam damaged earlier this year, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The barrels guide traffic toward the center of the bridge as a precaution for heavy vehicles. The bridge remains open, but will close in spring 2018 for crews to replace beams and the deck of the bridge. At that time, traffic will be detoured until the work is completed. Lunda Construction Company is the prime contractor.
The bridge was damaged in the spring by an oversized vehicle. Equipment being hauled on a trailer struck and damaged the bridge and also damaged another I-35 bridge at Steele County Road 31.
Earlier this year, crews could replace the beams and bridge deck on Steele County Road 31 bridge over I-35. The work has been added to a project south of Owatonna where 10 bridges are being replaced over two years on I-35 (six bridges) and Hwy 14 (four bridges).
