UPDATE: Ramp closures rescheduled at I-90 Austin Exit 179 for Sept. 5
AUSTIN, Minn. – The planned closure of the Exit 179 ramps on Interstate 90 in Austin except the westbound off-ramp has been rescheduled for Sept. 5, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The closures at Exit 179 are necessary for construction crews to build the intersections that connect with 11th Drive Northeast bridge with the ramps. The closure is expected to be about three weeks. This is part of the bridge replacement project.
Motorists may exit westbound I-90 at 11th Drive Northeast, but will need to follow detour signs to return to I-90. Eastbound motorists will be directed to ramps for the detour on that side of the bridge.
Motorists on I-90 are restricted to single-lane traffic in each direction near exit 179.
The new bridge will have two 12-foot lanes, two 8-foot shoulders and a 10-foot sidewalk. The existing roadway alignment will remain the same. Work on the project includes grading, paving, bridge replacement and shared use trail and drainage improvements. Work began May 15 on the project and should be complete by Oct. 2. Lunda Construction is the prime contractor for the $2.97 million project.
