Hwy 60 east detours begin April 19 near Zumbrota for Hwy 58 bridge project
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists near Zumbrota will encounter road closures and detours beginning next week as work on the Highway 58 bridge replacement advances, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
On April 19, the Highway 60 east interchange at Highway 52 will be closed and detoured as crews replace drain pipes at the interchange. Additional work is expected at the interchange to build areas to accommodate an upcoming detour. During this Highway 60 east closure the detours will be:
- Motorists on Highway 52 north and south who want to use Highway 60 east will exit at Pine Island to use Goodhue County Road 11 to Mazeppa, where it connects with Highway 60 east.
- Motorists traveling west on Highway 60 on the east side of Highway 52 will be detoured north at Mazeppa on Wabasha County Road 12 to Wabasha County Road 1 north to Goodhue County Road 16 west to Highway 58 south to Zumbrota where Highway 52 connects them with Highway 60 west.
The interchange is expected to open May 5, weather permitting.
Also, a planned weekend closing of Highway 58 at Highway 52 in Zumbrota will be delayed until April 22-23. Original plans called for the closure on April 15-16. During the April 22-23 closure, crews will be installing a sanitary sewer across Highway 58. Motorists may use the Highway 52 north off ramp to access the west side of Highway 52, but Highway 58 into Zumbrota will be detoured. Highway 52 motorists can use the Highway 60 west exit. Motorists can connect to the east with Highway 58 via Jefferson Drive. Highway 58 motorists can use Jefferson to get to Highway 52.
After the weekend work is completed, the northbound Highway 52 off ramp will be closed April 24-26 while crews complete a temporary bypass road to connect motorists with Highway 58 and adjacent businesses. Motorists who use the ramp will be detoured north on Highway 52 to the Highway 60 west exit, where they can return to Highway 52 south to the Highway 58 exit. The bridge remains open.
