UPDATE: Five-hour Hwy 61 ramp closure changed to Aug. 5 for bridge deck work
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Weather forecasts have prompted construction crews to change the timing of a planning northbound Highway 61 ramp closure to Friday morning instead of later afternoon, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The Highway 61 north ramp to access the Dresbach Welcome Center, Lock and Dam No. 7 and adjacent fishing ramps will be closed for four hours Friday morning for construction work related to the Dresbach Bridge project.
The ramp closure is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, while equipment is on the ramp to assist in pouring concrete on a bridge deck. During the closure, motorists can access the area, by traveling west on Interstate 90 and detour back on east I-90 via the Dresbach interchange. The ramp will reopen Friday afternoon after the work is complete.
The Dresbach Bridge project is a cooperative effort between the Minnesota and Wisconsin departments of transportation. The project includes constructing a new I-90 crossing over the Mississippi River and reconstructing the Highway 61/14 and the I-90 interchange.
The $187.5 million project began in late 2012 and will be completed this fall.
MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
