Single lane traffic on Hwy 3 at Third Street in Northfield begins June 13
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 3 at Third Street West in Northfield will encounter single lane traffic in each direction beginning Monday, June 13 as contractors install pedestrian crossing improvements, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Rapid rectangular flashing beacons are being installed as part of a pedestrian crosswalk flasher system at the intersection. Median improvements are being built that are part of an overall pedestrian-activated crosswalk flasher system at the intersection. Pedestrian, bicycle and motorist detours will occur at times during the city of Northfield’s project.
Highway 3 will be reduced to one lane in each direction and there will be alternating lane closures. Short delays are possible because of the road construction work. Some turn lanes will be closed during the construction. Work is scheduled to be completed by mid-August.
MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
