CapX2020 Highway 52 lane closures north of Cannon Falls postponed to March 17
ROCHESTER, Minn. – The lane closures planned for Tuesday, March 15 north of Cannon Falls on Highway 52 for the CapX2020 powerline project are being postponed to Thursday, March 17 because of rain, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation and CapX2020.
The work is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m., Thursday on Highway 52 near Dakota County Road 86 with lane closures in both directions. The highway will remain open during the daylong effort. If weather postpones Thursday’s work, it will be rescheduled for Friday, March 18.
This will be the last traffic disruption along Highway 52 for several months.
The next crossing of Highway 52 is scheduled in mid-May south of Cannon Falls near Goodhue County Road 14. MnDOT will alert motorists in advance of that work.
There are eight CapX2020 crossings of Highway 52 . Four crossings have been completed. The four remaining crossings – the crossing south of Cannon Falls and three near Hampton – will be completed by early summer.
The first crossing was completed in mid-December. Helicopters assist workers who are stringing wire between the poles along Highway 52. Motorists are asked to pay attention to their driving and not stop on the roadway or shoulder.

• Avoid tailgating
• Follow posted speed limits and directional signs
• Stay in one lane while driving through a work zone
About the CapX2020 Hampton-North Rochester project
Construction on the Hampton-Rochester-La Crosse 345 kV transmission line started north of Rochester in early 2013 and is expected to be complete in 2016. The transmission line will run between the new Hampton substation near Hampton, Minnesota, the new North Rochester substation north of Pine Island. It continues on to cross the Mississippi River near Alma, Wisconsin. Single steel pole structures for the 345 kV line are between 140 and 170 feet tall and spaced 800 to 1,000 feet apart.
