Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 26 construction in Houston County resumes May 5

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists can expect single-lane traffic on Hwy 26 between Hwy 16 and the Iowa border as crews work to complete a road resurfacing project that started last year.

Work is expected to begin on Monday, May 5, weather permitting. Flaggers and a pilot car will control traffic throughout the project, which is scheduled to continue through the end of May.

Mathy Construction, the prime contractor of the $5.8 million project, started work in August last year. Remaining work includes paving, rumble strips, shoulder work and striping.

When the project is complete, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer Hwy with new guardrail.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
