Orange barrels on a highway

Goodhue County Road 9 detour to begin on Hwy 52 near Cannon Falls

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists will encounter detours on Goodhue County Road 9 beginning Wednesday as work on the Hwy 52 quadrant interchange continues, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Access to Hwy 52 from Goodhue County Road 9 will close. Instead, motorists may use a detour to access Hwy 52 or continue travel on Goodhue County Road 9. The detour from the east is Goodhue County Road 56 north to Goodhue County Road 1 west until it intersects with Hwy 52. To continue west, motorists may follow Hwy 52 north to Goodhue County Road 14 south, which will eventually connect with Goodhue County Road 9 at Sogn.

A map of the detour is available on the MnDOT project page at www.dot.state.mn.us/d6/projects/hwy52cr9cr1/index.html

Motorists will continue to see lane closures on the Hwy 52 through the construction zone around Goodhue County Road 9. The lanes closures will switch sides on both the northbound and southbound roadways during the process.

The general contractor for this $6.72 million construction project is Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye, Minn. The project is expected to be finished in November.

MnDOT urges motorists to follow these recommendations in work zones:
•     Stay alert
•     Watch for signs, equipment and workers
•     Minimize distractions, such as using cell phones, eating or drinking
•     Avoid tailgating
•     Follow posted speed limits and directional signs
•     Stay in one lane while driving through a work zone
