Dresbach rest area, ramp closure to begin April 15
ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation reminds motorists that the Dresbach Intestate 90 rest area and travel information center near La Crosse, Wis., will close for two years beginning on Tuesday, April 15.
The closure of the facility, as well as the westbound I-90 off-ramp to southbound Highway 61, is due to the Dresbach Bridge construction over the Mississippi River.
Motorists traveling I-90 west from La Crosse, Wis., to Minnesota will encounter a ramp closure exiting I-90 westbound to southbound Highway 61. Motorists should follow westbound I-90 and take the Dresbach exit (273 B&A) to eastbound I-90. The detour is approximately 6 miles and will add approximately 10 minutes of travel time.
This detour will be in effect until 2016.
The Traveler Information Center and rest area, along with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service boat launch will also be closed during this time. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources boat landing at the site will remain open.
These closures are necessary as crews continue bridge construction.
This $187.5 million project is a cooperative effort between the Minnesota and Wisconsin departments of Transportation and will continue through 2016.
MnDOT urges motorists to follow these recommendations in work zones:
• Stay alert
• Watch for signs, equipment and workers
• Minimize distractions, such as using cell phones, eating or drinking
• Avoid tailgating
• Follow posted speed limits and directional signs
• Stay in one lane while driving through a work zone
