Highway 52 lane closures in Olmsted County begin Aug. 19
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists will experience lane closures on northbound and southbound Highway 52 near Pine Island beginning Monday, Aug. 19, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The closures are necessary while crews prepare for rock blasting to construct the new Southwest Frontage Road adjacent to Highway 52 in the area between the new Elk Run interchange and Olmsted County Road 12 east.
During the actual blasting, traffic will be temporarily stopped on northbound and southbound Highway 52.
The lane closures will be in effect through Friday, Aug. 23, weather permitting.
The rock blasting is part of the Elk Run Interchange project, which includes one of the first diverging diamond interchanges in Minnesota.
Construction on the Elk Run Interchange project began in spring 2011 and is anticipated to continue through November 2013. Shafer Contracting Co. Inc. is the prime contractor for this project.
