Orange barrels on a highway

Highway 19 construction from Northfield to Cannon Falls begins Aug. 5

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists can expect single-lane traffic on Highway 19 between Northfield and Cannon Falls beginning Monday, Aug. 5, as crews begin resurfacing the road, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Flaggers will control traffic throughout the project, which is scheduled to continue through mid-September, weather permitting.

Traffic on Highway 19 will also use a detour beginning Monday, Aug. 5, while crews replace culverts. The detour will be in effect for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

Detour route:

  • Highway 3
  • Dakota County Road 47
  • Dakota County Road 88
  • Highway 20

When the project is complete, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway with new guardrail.

Crane Creek Asphalt, a division of Mathy Construction, is the prime contractor for the $3.8 million project.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
