Orange barrels on a highway

Highway 16 construction from Preston to Lanesboro begins June 10

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists can expect single-lane traffic on Highway 16 between Preston and Lanesboro beginning Monday, June 10, as crews begin resurfacing the road, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Flaggers will control traffic throughout the project, which is scheduled to continue through early August, weather permitting.

Traffic on Highway 16 also will use a detour beginning Monday, June 10, while crews replace culverts. The detour will be in effect for about one month, weather permitting.

Detour route:

  • Fillmore County Road 17
  • Fillmore County Road 8

When the project is complete, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway with new guardrail.

Dunn Blacktop Co., a division of Mathy Construction, is the prime contractor for the $2 million project.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
