Orange barrels on a highway

Highway 16 resurfacing in Fillmore County begins May 20

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Highway 16 will close from Lanesboro to Rushford beginning Monday, May 20, as crews begin a pavement reclamation and resurfacing project.

Motorists will be detoured to Highway 250, Highway 30 and Highway 43.

The detour will remain in place until late August, weather permitting.

Pavement reclamation is the process of milling off part of the existing road surface, grinding the remaining pavement and a small layer of the underlying aggregate, injecting oil into the mixture to rebind the material and compacting it back into place. An asphalt overlay will be placed on top of the stabilized, reclaimed surface.

Dunn Blacktop, a division of Mathy Construction, is the prime contractor for the project, scheduled to be completed in September. When the project is finished, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
