Scattered icy spots reported in southeastern Minn.
ROCHESTER, Minn. – (4:55 p.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol advise drivers to slow down during their evening commute and throughout tonight because of scattered icy spots in Dodge, Freeborn, Goodhue, Mower, Olmsted, Rice and Steele counties.
Officials do not anticipate any interstate or highway closures at this time; however, motorists may encounter brief lane and road closures where crashes occur.
MnDOT snow plow operators are doing their part to make highways safe. Crews anticipate conditions will improve Thursday morning. Motorists should remember to:
- Drive slowly on bridges, overpasses and tunnels.
- Use a safe speed for winter driving conditions, regardless of the posted speed limit.
- Keep a safe stopping distance from the vehicle in front of you.
- Keep both hands on the steering wheel, eyes on the road and attention on your driving.
The State Patrol reminds motorists to buckle up and ensure children are properly secured in the correct safety restraint or booster seat.
