ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists can expect single-lane traffic on Highway 44 between Caledonia and Hokah beginning Monday, July 9, as crews begin resurfacing the road, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Traffic on Highway 44 also will use a detour beginning Monday, July 9, while crews replace a culvert. The detour will be in effect for two weeks, weather permitting.
Detour route:
- Houston County Road 20
- Plitzuweit Road
When the project is complete, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway with new guardrail and center turn lanes.
Mathy Construction is the prime contractor for the $7.5 million project.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
