Highway 42 closure near Elgin begins Oct. 12
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Highway 42 will close from Plainview to Olmsted County Road 2 beginning Friday, Oct. 12, as crews continue a bridge replacement project over the Whitewater River near Elgin.
Motorists will detour on Wabasha County Road 4, which turns in to Olmsted County Road 10, Olmsted County Road 2 and back to Highway 42.
Highway 42 will remain closed for two weeks. The project is expected to be complete in early November, weather permitting.
The new bridge will be wider, longer and include new guardrail.
Vista Design and Construction, LLC, is the prime contractor for the $1.3 million project.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
