Highway 19 in Goodhue County opens to traffic
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists can now drive on Highway 19 between Highway 61 and Cannon Falls, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Motorists will encounter periodic lane closures as crews finish paving. Traffic will be controlled with flaggers during these lane closures.
Highway 19 had been closed while crews conducted pavement reclamation.
Pavement reclamation is the process of milling off part of the existing road surface, grinding the remaining pavement and a small layer of the underlying aggregate, injecting oil into the mixture to rebind the material and compacting it back into place. Crews will add a layer of asphalt on top of the stabilized, reclaimed surface.
Rochester Sand and Gravel, a division of Mathy Construction, is the prime contractor for the project.
Motorists will experience a smoother road surface and a safer highway.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
