Southern Rail Corridor meeting scheduled for June 18

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The public is invited to attend the first meeting of the Southern Rail Corridor Project Advisory Committee to discuss the Southern Rail Corridor Feasibility Study and Alternatives Analysis.

The meeting will be held June 18 from 5-7 p.m., in Room B of the Rochester Public Library, 101 Second St. SE.

The Southern Rail Corridor study is a freight rail planning project to evaluate the need to mitigate or relocate the existing Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern freight rail line in Rochester to accommodate a potential increase in train traffic. The PAC meeting will provide a study overview and a draft purpose and need statement for the study.

PAC applications were submitted by 20 local individuals interested in participating and accepting the role of representing the needs and interest of all residents and businesses of Olmsted and Dodge counties. PAC members are encouraged to reach out to others in their communities to provide information on the study.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation and Olmsted County Regional Railroad Authority are leading this collaborative effort.
