REVISED: Highway 61 bridge replacement in Lake City postponed
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Work on the Highway 61 bridge replacement over Gilbert Creek in Lake City has been postponed due to flood waters, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Crews will continue to monitor water levels and work will begin as soon as flood levels subside.
The bridge replacement work was scheduled to begin Monday, April 18.
The new bridge will be built in phases to allow two-way traffic to be maintained throughout the project.
The new bridge will be wider and include a pedestrian bridge. The project is expected to be complete at the end of September, weather permitting.
Minnowa Construction, Inc. is the prime contractor for the $3.5 million project.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
