Elk Run Interchange project to proceed with frontage road construction
ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation has authorized all remaining construction work on the Elk Run Interchange project, including all frontage roads.
MnDOT received confirmation from the city of Pine Island that Tower Investments remains committed to the Elk Run project, including the creation of 20 biobusiness jobs by Dec. 31, 2012.
Tower Investments recommitted its plan to create a biotechnology cluster at Elk Run in a letter to the city of Pine Island dated Nov. 10, 2011. Tower Investments is maintaining its job creation goals and financing terms, and has authorized Pine Island to escrow a portion of Tower’s right-of-way donation in the interchange area until a minimum of 20 bioscience sector jobs are created.
Construction on the Elk Run Interchange project began in spring 2011 and is anticipated to continue through November 2012. Shafer Contracting Co., Inc. is the prime contractor for this $34.3 million project.
