Hwy 44 construction in Houston County begins May 9
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists can expect single-lane traffic on Hwy 44 between Spring Grove and Caledonia staring May 9, as crews begin resurfacing the road, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Flaggers will control traffic throughout the project, which is scheduled to continue through September, weather permitting.
Traffic on Hwy 44 also will be detoured beginning May 9, while crews replace a culvert. The detour will be in effect for three weeks, weather permitting.

- Old 44 Road
- Houston County Road 12
- Hwy 44
When the project is complete, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway with new guardrail.
Mathy Construction is the prime contractor for the $5.4 million, which also includes the resurfacing of Hwy 76 from Hwy 44 to Hwy 16.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
