REVISED: Highway 248 resurfacing in Winona County begins June 13
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Highway 248 will close from Rollingstone to Winona County Road 26 beginning Monday, June 13, as crews begin a pavement reclamation and resurfacing project from Altura to Highway 61.
The remaining section of Highway 248 from Highway 61 to Rollingstone will close Monday, June 20.
Motorists will be detoured to Winona County Road 33, Highway 14 and Highway 61.
Highway 248 from Highway 61 to Rollingstone will open in mid-July, and Highway 248 from Rollingstone to Winona County Road 26 will open in late July. Completion dates are weather permitting.
Pavement reclamation is the process of milling off part of the existing road surface, grinding the remaining pavement and a small layer of the underlying aggregate, injecting oil into the mixture to rebind the material and compacting it back into place. An asphalt overlay will be placed on top of the stabilized, reclaimed surface.
Dunn Blacktop, a division of Mathy Construction, is the prime contractor for the project, scheduled to be completed in early August. When the project is finished, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
