Highway 248 remains open in Winona County
Pavement reclamation, resurfacing project postponed

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Highway 248 from Rollingstone to Highway 61 remains open, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

This section of Highway 248 had been scheduled to close on June 20 as part of the pavement reclamation and resurfacing project from Altura to Highway 61.

The closure has been postponed due to a potential disruption of government services.

The remaining section of Highway 248 from Altura to Rollingstone remains closed. Motorists should follow the posted detour: Winona County Road 33, Highway 14 and Highway 61.

Pavement reclamation is the process of milling off part of the existing road surface, grinding the remaining pavement and a small layer of the underlying aggregate, injecting oil into the mixture to rebind the material and compacting it back into place. An asphalt overlay will be placed on top of the stabilized, reclaimed surface.

Dunn Blacktop, a division of Mathy Construction, is the prime contractor for the project. When the project is completed in early August, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
