Highway 14 traffic switches in Rochester begin June 20

 

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Buses and large trucks traveling southbound on 15th Avenue in Rochester will no longer be able to make right turns onto westbound Highway 14 beginning Monday, June 20.


Buses and large trucks should follow the detour:


East on Highway 14, south on Eastgate Drive, west on Eastwood Road, north on Marion Road and then back to Highway 14.


Regular vehicles will still be permitted to make the right turn.


The closure is necessary while crews reconstruct the turn lane. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.


The work is part of the Highway 14 reconstruction project, which will include new traffic signals at Third Avenue, Eighth Avenue, 11th Avenue and Marion Road. The project also will include adding bike lanes and landscaping, installing fiber-optic cable, resurfacing the road and closing multiple access points to improve the overall safety of Highway 14.


Rochester Sand and Gravel, a division of Mathy Construction, is the prime contractor for this $5.9 million project, scheduled to be completed in early August, weather permitting.

Motorists should be advised that Olmsted County’s 37th Street Northwest/County Road 22 resurfacing project from Highway 63 to Highway 52 began May 2. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during peak traffic hours.


The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
