Highway 14 in Rochester opens to traffic
ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists can now drive on all lanes of Highway 14 between Highway 52 and Marion Road through Rochester, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Highway 14 had been reduced to single-lane traffic in each direction while the highway was reconstructed.
The Highway 14 reconstruction project includes new traffic signals at Third Avenue, Eighth Avenue, 11th Avenue and Marion Road. The project also includes adding bike lanes, landscaping, resurfacing the road and closing multiple access points to improve the overall safety of Highway 14.
In addition, crews installed fiber-optic cable along Highway 14 from Highway 52 to Rochester Community and Technical College. The fiber-optics improve telecommunication for MnDOT, Olmsted County and Rochester, as well as interconnect the new traffic signals and service to the existing and newly installed traffic cameras.
MnDOT thanks motorists for their patience during the project.
Rochester Sand and Gravel, a division of Mathy Construction, was the prime contractor for this $5.9 million project.
