Northern Rochester Transportation Study complete
Open house set for May 19 to share results
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Individuals interested in learning more about the completed Northern Rochester Transportation Study are invited to an informational open house on Thursday, May 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the George W. Gibbs Jr. Elementary School, 5525 56th St. NW.
A brief presentation is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Project staff from the city of Rochester and the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be available to discuss questions and concerns. Participants can review the project background, see layouts of recommended projects and learn about the 25-year phased implementation plan.
The NRTS is a unified transportation plan for northwest Rochester to address long-range traffic demands through 2035. Outcomes of the NRTS include:
- West Frontage Road between 55th Street NW and 65th Street NW – No current plans exist to construct a west frontage road along Clearwater Road or Chateau Road within the next 25 years.
- Highway 52/65th Street NW interchange – A folded diamond interchange at 65th Street NW and Highway 52 is proposed for construction in 2012. The project also includes auxiliary lanes on Highway 52 between 55th Street NW and 65th Street NW. Project design and environmental studies are underway. The completed environmental document will be available at a public hearing in summer 2011.
- Phased implementation plan – The city of Rochester secured funding for Phase I of these improvements, which will likely include widening the 55th Street NW bridge, improving intersections at the Highway 52 ramp terminals and revising traffic signal timing. Phase I construction is proposed to begin in 2013. Subsequent NRTS projects in the plan will be phased over the next 25 years.
- Project resources – A technical memoranda that summarizes NRTS findings.
Information about all outcomes is available for review at www.northernrochesterstudy.com.
