REVISED: Hwy 44 detour in Houston County begins May 16
ROCHESTER, Minn. — Traffic on Hwy 44 will be detoured beginning Monday, May 16, as crews replace a culvert. The detour was originally scheduled to begin May 11, but the culvert replacement is postponed due to weather.
The detour will be in effect for three weeks, weather permitting.
Detour route:
- Hwy 76
- South Prairie Drive
- Houston County Road 5
- Houston County Road 3
- Hwy 44
Traffic will be detoured into downtown Caledonia. Motorists can expect lane shifts at Houston County Road 3 and Houston County Road 5 and a change in signal timing at Houston County Road 3 and Kingston Street.
The culvert replacement is part of a larger resurfacing project on Hwy 44.
When the project is complete, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway with new guardrail.
Mathy Construction is the prime contractor for the $5.4 million project, which also includes the resurfacing of Hwy 76 from Hwy 44 to Hwy 16.
Mn/DOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
