Culvert repair project north of Zumbro Falls closes Highway 63 to all traffic, including local traffic, for one week

ROCHESTER, Minn. –  Highway 63 north of Zumbro Falls is closed to all traffic, including local traffic, as crews replace two culverts that were damaged during the recent flooding, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The culverts being replaced are located near the junction of Wabasha County Road 16 and Wabasha County Road 33 and near Wabasha County Road 72. Highway 63 is completely closed in these areas and motorists should find alternate routes.

The culvert replacement project will take approximately one week, weather permitting.

Highway 63 remains closed to all through-traffic between Highway 247 and Highway 61. Local traffic is permitted in some areas to access residences.

When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
