UPDATE: Highway 52 will reopen between 3:30-3:45 p.m. today
Flooding continues to create difficult driving conditions in southeastern Minnesota
ROCHESTER, Minn. – (3:15 p.m.) Northbound Highway 52 will reopen between 3:30 -3:45 p.m. today. The northbound Highway 52 lanes were closed since Thursday, Sept. 23, due to a culvert separation that occurred Thursday morning.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises motorists to use caution in southeastern Minnesota due to flooding. Several highways have water over the road and some are closed at this time. Many highways are also opening up as flood waters subside.
Most Recently Opened Highway:
- NEW Northbound Highway 52 north of Pine Island between 3:30-3:45 p.m. today
Closed Highways:
- Highway 60 west of Zumbro Falls
Detour: Use local roads
- Highway 63 in Wabasha County
Detour: Highway 61 to Highway 42 to Highway 247 and then back to Highway 63.
- Highway 65 (East Main Street) in Albert Lea at Clark Street
Detour: Use Front Street
The public is reminded that when a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
MnDOT crews are working around the clock to make highways safe, control flooding and repair roads when waters recess. Many roadways are very muddy and when wet, the surfaces become very slippery. In addition, many roadways are narrow due to flooding impacts and many are missing shoulders.
